About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I have clients arriving by cruise ship in Shanghai for 1 day. Leave next day for japan. Do they need

a China visa
They are canadian citizens. Does the 144 transit free qualify.

Marlene, they may need to apply for an entry permit for this if they will enter and exit by the same cruise ship.
