do we need a visa for flight into beijing then to tianjin next day sail to japan

We will be flying from US to Beijing staying over night at a hotel. The next day we will be bused to Tianjin to our Princess cruise ship. The first port of call is Japan. The last stop is Sydney. We then fly back to USA.

Robert, if your total layover time in PRC is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. No entry permit is needed then. But if it is more than 24 hours, a transit G type or tourist L type is needed and you should apply for it beforehand.
