About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

What is the latest date at which you can start the renewal process of your current residence permit?

Eg: My current resident permit expires on 15th Aug. Could I submit the renewal on the 14th of August and simply explain to anyone who asks that my renewal is in progress?

Mike, I think it's too risky to apply for the renewal on the 14th of August because it's too late. You should start the process as soon as possible.
