About:Chinese Consulate in Edinburgh

My partner and I are planning to go to Beijing, China this August.

He is holding a British Passport and I am an Irish Passport holder. We are thinking to stay in Beijing for 3 nights 4 days.
Are we allowed to stay in the country for 72 hours?

Michelle, according to what you said, I think you can possibly use the 72 hour free transit in Beijing.
