About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Unusual duration for visa processing?

I am a US permanent resident with a passport from Ghana. I was planning to take a one week vacation in Beijing as a tourist. I submitted my application along with my passport and all required documents about 4 weeks ago at the Washington DC consulate.
My intended date of departure, which is paid for along with my hotel reservation is 6 days away and I haven't heard from them. I've tried calling and sending an email to check on the status so that I can at least make alternate travel arrangements for my upcoming vacation but that has proved futile. Is this unusual? And are there other steps I should be taking other than waiting for an approval or denial that may not come in time?

Joseph, usually, the application process takes 4 working days, but there may be exception.
If possible, you’d better go to the embassy of PRC and ask about the situation and know about why it takes for so long.

Hi Joseph, did you end up getting your passport back?

No. With all the inquiries I've made (including ones about getting my passport back), either in person, by phone or email, their response is always to keep waiting.
This has been one of the most needlessly frustrating experiences I've ever had in my adult life.
