Can a child born in China to a Chinese citizen and an American citizen get US citizenship?

I have a son who is married to a Chinese citizen and they are planning on going to China and are expecting a baby. He seems to think that he can get the baby American citizenship by going to the American embassy and applying for it. I need some answers please!

Kathy, no worry! Your son can go to the American embassy to apply for an overseas birth certificate. In this way, the baby is recognized the American citizen.
