About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying from Hong Kong to Shanghai in August, then staying 3 days, then onward travel to Taipei

I'm a US Passport holder flying from Hong Kong to Shanghai in August, then staying 3 days, then flying onward to Taipei, Taiwan. Am I able to enjoy the 144 hour free transit?
