Tom, it may pose some obstacles for your application, but it's still worth a try. You can provide detailed itinerary on your applicatio form. For the round-trip tickets, you can show the flights from Australia to Vietnam, a train ticket from Vietnam to China, an exit ticket, and ticket from Bangkok to Australia.
