About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I'm heading to the Maldives with no Visa - will I be able to use the 72 hour free transit?

Within one flight itinerary, my final destination is the Maldives which provides VOA. So at the time of my 12-hour layover in Guangzhou I will not have a valid destination entry permit. Will this affect my eligibility for the 72 hour free-transit?

Sharon, if you can provide a VOA notification, this won’t be a problem and you can use the direct transit in Guangzhou.

What is a VOA Notification? We would like to leave the airport. My understanding is the direct-transit is only valid if you stay in the airport.

VOA notification is used to prove that you can get the VOA when you arrive in Maldives.
If you want to leave the airport, you just need to apply for a temporary stay permit which is free of charge at the airport. After that, you can leave the airport.

Thanks Vicky, is the VOA notification an official document or is this like a print-out of the official Maldives government policy? Sorry to be a pain, I cannot find any information like this through googling.
