About:Dual Nationality

A Chinese woman in the US on a student VISA had a baby. The father is also a Chinese national.

The baby has a US social security number. When the mother is ready to return to China, does she need to get paperwork for her baby? A US Passport? Something showing Chinese citizenship?

If the father has got a permanent residency in USA, the baby is recognized as a USA citizen and it should get Mainland visa to CN.
If both parents are temporary residents in USA, the baby still has CN citizenship and can apply for a tourist visa to enter PRC.

Thank you, Rudolph. The father visits the US only occasionally on business and is not married to the mother. His business is mainly in China. Both parents are PRC citizens.

The 2-month old baby does not yet have any passport but has a US birth certificate. What needs to be done to have a recognized PRC passport, then obtain an F-2 Visa to be in the US with the mother?

Since the baby was born in USA, he enjoys eligible stay in US. You don't need to apply a visa for the baby.
