About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Do I need to apply a new visa after I renew my passport?

I recently renew my passport and got a new number & book. A few months ago I got a 1 year multiple entry permit. My question is do I have to apply for a new entry permit at the Chinese embassy?

Tony, you may travel with both passports and don’t need to apply for a new one provided that the personal details including your name, sex, date of birth, address and nationality on both passports are exactly the same.

I went to the Chinese embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, and they are all insisting me to get a new one. In my experience, other countries are able to use the existing one as long as the requirements you mentioned are all the same. Any reason why the local embassy is saying different otherwise? Any suggestions and/or advice?
