About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour visa free program

My wife is flying from the US to Shanghai but her flight stops in Hong Kong. We are planning to go to Hong Kong after Shanghai, is this possible and still be able to use the 144 hour free transit? If not can I just buy her a plane ticket to Macao just to get the free transit?

If you travel like that, the 144 hour free transit is not eligible for your situation.
But if she flies to Macau after transiting in Shanghai, she can use the free transit in Shanghai.

What if I buy her a ticket to Macau to show to get the visa and then we just don't use that ticket and fly back to Hong Kong?
