how far is Hangzhou East station from city area?

hello.. i will be travelling from shanghai to hangzhou. I can stay near west lake or in city area so may i ask:
1) should i be taking SH to hangzhou east station ?
2) from East station - how many mins by taxi to West lake or to city area ?
