About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

how can I prevent using my tourist visa when transiting through Beijing and Chengdu airports?

I have a pre booked non refundable return flight to Manchester from chengdu, I have a tourist entry double entry, (I have used the first entry already) I would like to know if I fly from Mongolia to Beijing with a connecting flight to chengdu, can I apply for the 72 hour transit in both Beijing and chengdu and not use my tourist type yet? As I am flying back into chengdu as my second entry?

Hannah, since you will stop over Beijing and Chengdu, you are not eligible for the 72-hour free transit, so if your total layover period is more than 24 hours, you second entry will be used. To prevent it from being used, you should choose a direct flight from Mongolia to Chengdu.

UK passport can have multiple transit city in China and meet 72-hour free transit, but not for Canada or US Passports. If your total time stay within PRC is less than 72 hours, you can use free transit, inform immigration officer that you meet transit requirement. However, be aware that the last country flied to prc can not same as your next country departing from prc, for instance, if your flight is UK directly to PRC without stops, then the departing flight from PRC can not be direct flight to UK.
