Getting a work visa (Z type) from China

I'm in China on an F-type (multi-entry, valid for the next 6 months) and I need to get a Z-type. The question is, where to get it? I understand that this cannot be done inside China. Can I go to somewhere nearby: Hong Kong or Bangkok and do it there? Thanks for any advice.

Dear, actually, it’s possible for you to get the work Z type in PRC. You can try to change your F type to work Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB if you have got all the documents for work Z type.
If it cannot be done, you can go to Thailand to try to apply for it because of you don’t have HK residence permit, it’s difficult for you to apply for it there.

Hi Mary
Thank you so much for this. In fact, the PSB option didn't work, but Thailand did. Many countries require three months residence but Thailand does not.
