About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Philippines to Shanghai, 144 hour free transit

hi i just want to ask regarding 144 hour free visa transit. I have a friend from Netherland he is currently staying here in the Philippines and he wants to visit shanghai from june 12 - 18 but my concern is his ticket he had a round trip ticket MNL-PVG-MNL. Is it possible to use this 144 hour free transit?

Bless, if he travel like that, he is not eligible for the 144 hour free transit because according to the 144 hour policy, he should fly to a third country or region after staying in Shanghai, but he just flies back to Manila. In this case, he needs to apply for a tourist L type or transit G type ahead of his trip. Alternatively, he can change the return flight to one that stops in Hong Kong or Macau before heading for MNL.
