About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 transit visa in Shanghai

Hello, I am an Italian citizen. I want to travel from Cambodia to Shanghai and then from Shanghai to Italy (within 72 hours). Can I enjoy the 72 hours free transit? In addition to this, a person traveling with me has a valid Chinese entry permit, but he wants also to enjoy the 72 hours free transit. Shall he lose his entry permit? Many thanks

Giulia, you can enjoy the 72/144 hour free transit in Shanghai.
As for your travel partner, if he is eligible for the free transit as well, when he goes through the immigration inspection, he can tell the consular officers that he wants to use the 72/144 hour free transit this time instead of the entry permit on his passport, he can use the 72/144 hour free transit and his entry permit won't be used. It can be used to enter PRC the next time as long as it is valid.
