Considering your situation, you can apply for an F type.
Except the invitation letter, you also need to provide the application form affixed with a passport-style photo, your passport and copy of its data page.
Afterwards, go to the embassy of PRC between 15:00 and 17:00 every Tuesday or Thursday to make an appointment for the interview, and submit your application.
