About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Will this 72 hour visa apply? Quick answer please!

I will be traveling from Narita (Tokyo) to Beijing, staying in Beijing for two days but coming back to Narita. My separate flight (not connecting) will be back to Chicago. I am doing this trip next week. What is recommended?

Hi Ashley! So you will fly from Narita to Beijing and then to Narita to take a flight back to Chicago? If so, I'm afraid you can't enjoy the free transit policy. This route does not meet the requirements. You are advised to take a direct flight from Beijing to Chicago.

Thank you for responding Alice! I realized this 72 hour TWOV did not apply. However, I canceled and rebooked. Now, we will be doing Chicago to Narita via United. But then taking ANA airlines from Narita to Beijing, staying less than 48 hours actually. Then traveling from Beijing to Chicago via United. I believe this three city stop qualified, as well as we are under the 72 hour limit. Do I have to call ANA airlines to have them alert customs in Beijing ahead of time? Suggestions to make this process of getting through Beijing customs as smoothly as possible? Thank you so very much!

Ashley, if so, you can enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing. You need to call ANA airlines to inform them that you want to use the 72 hour free transit in Beijing, and then your request will be declared to the Beijing immigration inspection ahead of time.
