About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Change of plans - what to do

I am in Shanghai now on the 72 hrs visa, was meant to continue to Taipei but my meeting got cancelled. Can I go back to Seoul or do I still need to exit via Taipei (3rd country...)

Mike, you can go back to Seoul. It doesn't matter.

You came from South Korea to Shanghai?
Well if you go back to South Korea you are not eligible for the 144h twov and your stay in Shanghai is illegal.
You can have luck and nobody at the border control will say anything.
But if they catch you, you can run into trouble.
I would contact the immigration asap and tell them your problem to solve this issue.
