About:Guangzhou to Hong Kong Train

can I Buy train tickets to hongkong without the real passport?

I an foreigner live in guangzhou and my overseas friend is coming and plan to go to HK. Can I buy the ticket first without the real passport? (use photo of the passport)

You can try to book it online via a booking agent or try to buy it at the Guangzhou East railway station if you are there (with copy).
