american citizen travels for a wedding to hangzhou

I was invited to the wedding in Hangzhou by my former students. It is my first visit to China and I am not sure when I should apply for my visa. The wedding is going to be held on October 29, 2016. Also, do I need any information from my former students or their parents? Do I need an actual paper invitation? Thank you!Anastasia

Anastasia, you are advised to apply for it in September.The invitation letter can be issued either by your former student or by their parents. The invitation letter doesn’t have to be actual paper and it can be scanned copy or fax copy unless you are required to provide the original invitation.
