Changing Z to F/M in China

Hi.

I've been living here for a few years on a Z type, working with/for a company. I know want to start my own company here (WOFE - but I am the owner of a HK company), but due to G20, I hear that applications are slowing down. My current Z expires in June, and so the company can't be formed before September.

Can I get my Z transferred to an F or M for a few months while still being in China? Can I just apply for the visa using my ownership of the HK company (ie, not have an 'invitation' from an China-based company?

Thanks!

Frank, you can convert your Z type to F/M type. As for the invitation letter, if the HK company has a branch in mainland PRC, you can get an invitation letter from the branch. Otherwise, the invitation cannot be used.

Thanks Christina.
The purpose of the business M type is to assess the value of opening an office on the mainland - so at the moment, no branch here.
How does that affect things?
Is it better to have a business M type, or a tourist?

If so, you can just apply for a tourist L type to enter PRC. It doesn’t affect anything. Just relax!
