Visa requirement transiting in Beijing(China)

Hi,
I would like to confirm if entry permit is require if I am transit in Beijing;

Trip 1. Sydney to Beijing (1 night stay over) then transit to London
Trip 2. Rome to Beijing (2 night stay over) then transiting back to Sydney

Isabelle, if so, you can enjoy the free transit twice in Beijing for both legs of your trip.
