Malaysian Transit in GuangZhou, Need Visa?

Hi, I'm a Malaysian holding Malaysia passport and I will transit at the Baiyun Airport (CAN) to go to USA. The time of transit is 17 hours until my next flight. May I know do I need to apply for the entry permit? and if I do, where can I apply for it? If I didn't get it does it mean that I can't get out from airport during the transit?

Ling, you don’t need to apply for the entry permit because you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit.
You can get out from the airport as long as you apply for a temporary stay permit at the immigration counter and it is free of charge.
