travelling for sial expo

Question

We will be travelling to Shanghai for SIAL Expo from Australia. Departing Sydney with a 2 hour stop-over in Hong Kong and arriving in Shanghai Pudomg on the evening of May 4. We depart Shanghai Pudong on Sunday evening, May 8, for Hong Kong, stay two nights in Hong Kong and then return to Sydney. Does this journey qualify for the 144-hour transit visa?

Martin, I'm afraid you cannot enjoy the 144-hour free transit in Shanghai because the 2-hour layover in HK makes this route not qualified as a transit.
