I might hire a car from Kunming to the stone forest and the cave. I'm thinking about the value for money. Can anyone tell if its worth visiting?

Definitely. Stone Forest is a must see place. As for cave, do you mean the cave in Jiuxiang area? The boat ride is included in the entrance ticket.
