Erlian China ( Erenhot) to Ulan Bator Mongolia

I want to take the train across the border to Ulan Bator. Does anyone know the cost , the travel time and the train conditions as in bringing food along the way ?? Also how long is the trip ? How often do the trains travel each day or week to Ulan Bator and are there any stops in Mongolian towns along the way that might be worth stopping and seeing ? Many Thanks in advance...tim

There is only one train departing at Erlian to Ulan Bator at 17:10 every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The whole trip takes 17.5h and costs CNY 240 or so. The food provided on the train may not be very good for most people's taste. You'd better prepare some food. A town named Zamyn-Uud is worth visiting. You may want to stop by this small town along the way.
