About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Changes to a tourist Visa

I submitted my application for a tourist L type but my plans have changed. My dates of entry are going to move to a later date and I may stay longer. I have not picked up the L type yet. Should I or will I have to submit a new application and start all over? I will be staying in Hong Kong but I was planning to enter the mainland on 3/31 and again on 4/8 but a family member asked if I could slide the dates back and we may go to different cities. Not sure what to do.

Crad, once your application is processed and approved, you will not be able to change the type and validity unless you request the L type be voided by the embassy and apply and pay for a new one.

Actually, it doesn’t matter. Because usually the validity of a tourist L type should be 3 months, you can enter at any time within the 3 months after you get it. If your travel moves to a later date, you can enter a little bit late. According to what you said, you will need to enter PRC twice, so you should apply for a double-entry tourist L type.

If you may need to stay longer after you enter, but the stay duration of your L type doesn’t cover your stay in PRC, you can probably apply for an extension 7 days earlier before it expires after your entry.
