Short cruise stop in Shanghai

I am an UK citizen with an EU passport. I will be taking a cruise from Japan to Singapore. There is a stop in Shanghai from 2.00p.m until 6.00p.m the following day, then it leaves for Hong Kong. Do I need a visa for the Shanghai cruise stop? I know Hong Kong does not require one.
Thank you for any assistance....
