About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

What type of Visa do I need for multiple entry?

Hi, I'm traveling to China from the 2nd to the 24th of April 2016 and I will be staying with a friend, but during that period I will also be traveling to Japan from the 4th to the 12th of April, so I would need a double-entry one right? So what kind do I need and how do I apply for a double-entry one?
I am quite confused at the moment so I would appreciate it a lot if you could answer my question please!
Many thanks!

Hi Sradha, so you will fly from the UK to PRC on April 2 and then onto Japan on April 4, right? May I know which city will you enter this time? If the city has adopted 72-hour free transit policy, you don't need entry permit for this leg of trip. When you return from Japan, you need an L type entry permit. So a single-entry L type is what you need.

However, if you are a UK citizen, you can try to get a 2-year multiple entry L type because the fees are different no matter what type you apply for.

The application process is simple. First prepare all documents, including a passport valid for at least six months, a copy of the passport's info page, a completely filled-out application form with your passport style photo stuck on it, and an invitation letter from your friend. Then submit the application to the CVASC office. If you apply from the CVASC in London, you need to book an appointment in advance.

Hi Richard,
Yes! Thank you for the response! So I'll be going from London to Beijing on the 2nd and flying out to Japan on the 4th. Do I need an entry permit for Beijing? So I need the L type when I come back from Japan yes?
I had a look at the website for Chinese embassy in London but there were no days free for an appointment till the 28th of March which is probably too late for me so I was going to do this all in post. It should take up to 10 days via post right?

If so, you don’t need it when you first enter Beijing. A tourist L type is required when you come back from Japan.
You are right. It will take 10 working days if you post your application.
