Changing flights after transit approved

I am in China on an approved 72 hour transit. I arrived from the US, and planned on flying to Tokyo for a meeting after 3 days then back to the US a day after that. Unfortunately my meeting in Tokyo has been cancelled. I would like to fly back to the US instead. Am I able to change my flights? Will I have any problems at the airport?
