I DONT KNOW WHO STARTED KUNG FU BUT I DO KNOW KUNG FU IS TO BE FOR SELF DEFENCE NOT TO HARM PEOPLE

It was not started by some specific individuals and it has been developed from the preying movements of animals. You are right. People performed it for keeping fit and self defence.
