About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I have a 72 hour visa free transit both ways on my trip?

I am UK passport holder flying London to Sydney (return) via Beijing. Both ways I have a long stop over. Can I apply for a 72 hour free transit on both legs. The journeys are about 3 months apart.
