Michael L: Arrive Beijing 1st Sept. 2016 from ATLANTA GA. USA, 72 hour visa-free transit?

2 day stay in Beijing at a local hotel, then onward to Tokyo Sept 3. DOES THIS satisfy all requirements need to use the 72 hour free transit policy?
