14 Hour Layover in Beijing

I have a 14 hour layover in Beijing. I arrive at 5:30 Saturday morning and depart at 7:40 pm that evening.
I'd like to go out from the Beijing Capital Airport and see some sights. Can you tell me whats close by and if the train or taxi is the best option.
I'd like to go to Tiananmen Square, is that doable?
Thank you.

Dear Joy, you can make use of the time to take a short city trip in Beijing. Take airport express to Dongzhimen, then change subway line 2 and get off at Qianmen Station, you will get to Tiananmen Square. The whole journey takes around one hour. You may also visit Forbidden City or Summer Palace or Temple of Heaven according to your time. Please be sure to get back to the airport at least 2 hours prior to your flight departure.

Thank you John!
Do I need to apply for a visa or stay pass or something and how would I go about doing that?

Normally, Chinese visa is required when you go out from the airport to downtown. But if you are qualified for the 72-Hour Visa Free Transit policy, you can go out for sightseeing without visa. You may check the following page for more details about this policy:
