Friend on Family visa. Can visit HK and re-enter?

I am currently in Taiwan but am a UK National. I have a friend who is currently in Wuhan for almost a year on a family type entry permit as has a daughter there with a national.

I am travelling to Hong Kong next week and my friend plans to visit.
He is worried however that on his visa, he cannot leave as does not have "exit points" and may have to purchase a new entry permit. I believe he is on an L type.

He currently has a British Passport which means he can get into HK.
What I'm asking is, is he able to enter HK for 2-3 days and then return to Wuhan and continue his Visa? Or would he need to renew?
Thank you.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan, you should first make sure that your friend is holding a Q1 type. If yes, then he can visit HK and reenter without problems. If he is holding Q2 type and it's for a single entry, then he has to apply for a new entry permit in order to reenter.

Hi Pauline.
Thanks ever so much for your reply. I am finding out the type now.

If he is on a Q1, is it a simple process to get ready-entry? I.e turning up at the border or does it take a specified amount of time to get assessed and back in?
Thanks again!
Your reply has been very helpful!

Ryan, if he holds Q1 type, there is no doubt that he has a residence permit which allows him to exit or enter PRC at any time.
