About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72-hour visa-free in Shanghai

Hello,
1. I am flying from Paris to Shanghai and then in 3 days to Hong Kong with a separately bought ticket. I am also staying at a friend's hotel room. Am I still eligible for 72 hour free transit?
2. And do I have to contact the airlines in advance and if yes how in advance? Do I just make a call?
Thank you for your answer in advance

Joanna, you are eligible for the 72 hour free transit.
You don’t need to contact with it in advance. When you board the plane, you should inform the airline attendant that you will use the 72 hour free transit.
