Do I need a second Chinese Visa

US citizen here and I have a 10 year PRC entry permit for visiting family members, but now I need to travel for business, do I need to apply for a business M type as well?

JL, if I were you, I will not apply for a second entry permit. As you know, if you apply for a new one, your ten-year entry permit will be cancelled. What's more, it does not matter too much if you use the current one to travel for business.
