About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

I've been working in China for 3 years now, so I'm holding a working visa

but recently, I just got married to a Chinese girl. I have to apply for the family Q type, but do I have to exit PRC? and what are the requirements for the family Q type?

Louie, if you still want to work in PRC, you don’t have to apply for Q type. Q type doesn’t allow you to work in PRC.
However, if you want to apply for Q type, the required documents include your passport and its copy, the application form and a passport-sized color photo, as well as an invitation letter from your wife, and her PRC ID card, and your marriage certificate (original and copy). It’s likely that you don’t need to exit PRC, but the exit and entry administration of the local PSB has the final say.

Hi all

I am in a similar situation. However, I am finishing my work in March 2016 and unable to find work ready in the province that I am going to.

I am British, married to a Chinese wife, living here for 5 years consecutively on z types all this time. I want my current employee to help me transfer a Z into Q type for about 3 months. I plan to move from Zhejiang province to Shandong a week after my contract ends. I tend to find work when I am in the province and start in Summer 2016 (this part of changing to a z type may mean I need to leave the country).

So, if anyone can help, I'd be most grateful, as I cannot afford leaving the country as I also have a young son.

Time aspect shouldn't be a problem. If the UK is like the US, the whole thing should not be a problem. You can ask for advice from the UK consulate in that city, however. The most difficult part is that you'll need a letter stating your completed your work satisfactorily from the last Chinese employer. The rest shouldn't be a big hassle. Getting the right letter from the employer is usually the hassle, if any, because they often never did it before. Then you can change entry permit again later when it's time, hopefully in HK. It's about 1000 kuai to do the whole family type thing at the processing center. PSB should be able to direct you as to process, as elsewhere on the web. PSB is supposed to know but might now. I recommend just finding the processing center and asking them all the questions directly.
