Got problem renew my family visa

I been living in China over three years my wife is Chinese and I have a baby long story short I went to renew my family Q type they make problem to me telling me you been living three years without work we can't believe that I said I'm doing free trading in some webs after all they said apply for 6 moths and we will see my question is do they have right to do that? do I need to hire a lawyer to solve the problem ?
