About:China Work Visa

Residence permit, travel in and out

Hi, I travel to China tomorrow and I'm going to be working there till the summer, I know when I get there I have to apply for residency and hand over my passport. I travel back to the UK on 21st January for pre commitments before this job and wondering how long do they keep your passport for to receive back before my flight back to UK or would it be best to hold on applying for my reaidency till I return to China on 3rd February?

Tom, after you enter PRC, you need to first take a physical examination at the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. Then you need to get a work certificate at the local labor bureau, which takes about three working days. Next, you should go to the Exit and Entry Administration to apply for the residence permit, which takes about 15 working days. So I think you may not have enough time to get the residence permit before you leave. In addition, if you enter on the Z type this time and don't apply for a residence permit, it will expire by the time you leave. Therefore, I think the best choice is to put off your scheduled date to go back to the UK.
