About:China Family Reunion Visa

non married mixed couple with a child - can the mother apply for a Q1 visa to come to China longterm

Hi,
I am a French mum of a child who has a chinese father. He is currently in PRC and we would like to move there. We are not married. Can I apply for a Q1 type for my son and myself ? If so, how to prove our relationship as he is in PRC and i am not?
Also, another big problem, there is no any PRC consulate or embassy where I live, I must fly to another country with baby or can I apply another way?
Thanks for your great information !

Liplip, if you are French citizen, you can apply for it at the CVASC in Paris. You can present your son’s birth certificate to apply for Q type for him. As for you, I’m afraid it’s impossible for you to apply for Q type because the CVASC may require you to provide the marriage certificate.

Dear Dave,
Thank you for your reply !
Unfortunately, as I mentionned I live very far away from Paris (more than 10 000km) on a French territory with no chinese embassy...
My son is just 2 year-old, it would not be convenient and also unaffordable if I had to continuously renew tourist L types as we are permanently moving there. i understand the Q1 type might not be possible in my situation and thank you for your kind information, then would you have any recommendation about which type would be acceptable ? Thanks again and i wish you a happy new year ! :)

For you, you can marry the baby's father first and apply for the Q1 type. If you don't want to do that, you can hunt for a job or school to admit you in PRC, so that you can apply for a Z type or X type entry permit. With such entry permit, you can apply for the temporary residence as well. As for where to apply, I think you can fly to the nearby countries which has a PRC embassy.
