Does the tourism visa need an invitation?

All my documents ready with a round-trip tickets, and I have a hotel reservation, but do I need an invitation? I want to visit China for tourism, and I do not have any friends there to send me an invitation.

If you already have the air tickets and hotel booking, you don't have to provide the invitation letter again.
