Receiving a package from the US

Good day! I am receiving a parcel from the US in 3 weeks via USPS First Class Mail. I live in Beijing (CBD) and I understand packages go through customs scrutiny. Will I be receiving a call or some written notice will be sent to me informing me that my package needs to be picked up (and the taxes paid for)? Or is it done at the doorstep? I also saw a local China Post office near the subway exit near my house. Will my package land there or in some central hub (as I read in a very old blog post)? Thank you for your help.

Joey, if your parcel passes the customs successfully, it will be delivered to your door. However, if it is stopped by the customs, the customs will let you know. Or the post office will notice you of this. I used USPS once. It took around 2 weeks to reach Xian.

Thank you, Jay, for your reply.
I actually received a package from Florida via FedEx and it was stopped by customs. I just had to fill out forms declaring the amount of the product and pay the corresponding levy at the doorstep. But I heard CN Post's procedure is slightly different from the private courier services, thus, this inquiry.
Hopefully it will be cleared scott-free.
Thank you again!
