Craig, you can sue the 24 hour direct transit.
Currently, when you transit in Beijing and won’t leave the airport, you are exempt from relevant procedures. After getting off, you will be led to a special lane to transfer zone and the airline staff will stamp on your air ticket.

I want to go out of the airport for about 6 hours. Will that be allowed with the 24 hour temporary entry permit?

Craig, yeah, you can leave the airport, but you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport.
