Is it advisable to join a tour to visit Enshi Grand Canyon?
Are they accessible by ourselves?

To be honest, you don't need to join in a tour. You can tour around by yourselves. As I know, the scenic area has many detailed English signs and English guide map that can help you find the right direction. Don't worry.1

Yes, public transport is available and there are two of them:
1. From En Shi railway station, there is a direct bus to the valley at 07:30. But someone says it needs advanced booking. So maybe the second way is more suitable for you.
2. Get to the Hangkong Road, then take the bus to Mufu Town (where is valley is located). The bus schedule is more dense and ticket fare is CNY 20 per person. But sorry I don't know the detailed bus schedule.1
