About:

I arrive Chengdu around 9pm and my flight is at 5:15pm following day.

Can you give me some ideas of things I can do in my time frame. I'll be staying close to airport. Can I take a bus to the city from there and where would go to catch bus? What would the cost be? Thank you

Well, you can stay at the hotel nearby the hotel and start off in the next early morning.
Take airport shuttle bus line 2 to get to East Tianfu Square Station. The ticket fare is CNY 10. Then take a taxi to Thatched Cottage of Du Fu. It costs around CNY 15. Then you can tour around Wuhou Temple/Jinli Street, Chunxi Road and Wide and Narrow Alley. You can easily find many local snacks and interesting souvenirs.
Notably, you need to go back to the airport at least 1.5 hours in advance.
