why was the Great Wall strengthened? can someone explain plz!

it was built with mud and boards, what did they use extra?

Bella, rammed earth was used at the beginning. Later, bricks were used to cover the wall so that the wall became hard and firm. How did they get the bricks combined? Sticky rice juice and mortar were used.
