Yes, there are direct long-distance bus between these two places. You can take it from Main Bus Station. The schedules are from 06:40 to 18:55. It costs CNY 15 per person.
If you wanna go there in the night, you can take train from JY Railway Station, get off at Shantou Railway Station. The schedules in the night are 20:11 and 23:01. The ticket fare of soft sleeper is CNY50.5 and hard sleeper is CNY38.5.
You can choose the way you like.
